The largest stupa in the Western world, a thirteen-storey monument set in a quiet bushland reserve in Myers Flat. The morning light through the sandstone is reason enough. Free entry, open daily 9:30am – 5pm.

The oldest Chinese temple of its kind in Australia, built in the 1860s by the gold-rush community and continuously in use ever since. An honest, atmospheric thirty minutes. Open Wed – Sun.
Heritage · Cultural
One of Australia's oldest regional galleries, currently closed for a major rebuild, reopening early 2028. Its program continues at venues across town, and the View Street precinct around it stays worth the wander.
Art · Reopens 2028
One of the largest cathedrals in the Southern Hemisphere, Gothic Revival in sandstone, with stained glass worth setting an afternoon aside for. Free to visit.
Architecture
An honest, properly-narrated descent into the working underground mine. The right tour for a Saturday morning or a grey afternoon. Tours from $35.
Heritage · Tour
The town's tree-canopied centre. Walk past the Poppet Head, climb the lookout for a quiet view back over the cathedral, drop down to the conservatory and the rose garden.
Outdoors
A restored heritage tram circuit that loops past the gallery, gardens, cathedral and Joss House. A surprisingly good way to orient yourself on a first morning.

Australia's oldest working pottery, since 1858. Watch a wheel in motion, walk the kilns, buy a piece for the kitchen. A perfect Sunday-morning stop on the way to the airport.

If you have a third day
A small cluster of family vineyards making some of Victoria's most quietly serious shiraz. We can pre-book a flight at three of our favourite cellars, and arrange a driver if you'd like to do it properly.
The art-and-furniture town. Two galleries, three excellent op-shops, the Mill complex, the original Saff's pottery. A Sunday-morning day trip if you've extended the weekend.
Mineral springs, slow Sunday markets, restaurants worth the drive. Pair with a bathhouse afternoon at Hepburn, the antidote to a long working week.

QantasLink operates direct services between Sydney and Bendigo, with direct flights five days a week into Bendigo Airport (BXG), fifteen minutes from the front door of Zalm. Booking flights is separate; we're happy to share the timings we'd choose for our own weekend.
An early-afternoon SYD departure lands in time for a long, late lunch at Le Foyer · the right pace for an arrival.
A mid-to-late afternoon BXG departure means a Sunday-lunch send-off at Bocce, and home for dinner in Sydney.
Small, calm, and 15 minutes from the house. No long check-in queues, no terminal-to-gate marathon.
